While Quincy may have
moved on from swimsuits, goggles and church shoes...she isn't done
experimenting. Since the weather had been pretty nice we decided to get some
Popeye's and take it to the park for a picnic.
Trying the "candybar." It worked for a second but
neither of them liked it.
Walking along the peers at sunset.
The next night we went to a local dirt track to watch some racing. It
was a whole new world to us!
There was a lot of warming up but once they cars really started it was
LOUD! Fortunately the guy next to us had plenty of disposable ear plugs
and was nice enough to give them to us. Without them we wouldn't have lasted
long.
The flag guy was pretty entertaining, both in dress and duty. There
are so many colored flags and it took me a long time to even guess at what each
one is signaling.
Another cool thing that night was a 12 year old driver! He was there
racing with his dad and if they hadn't introduced him I definitely wouldn't
have noticed any of the drivers with less ability. He was keeping up and racing
with the best of them.
When I think of dirt track racing I think of Disney Cars, "you have to
turn left to go right." Well it was SUPER cool watching these
drivers do just that. They would start their turn really early and I
would think they were for sure going to slide right off the track, but (besides
one car who was consistently sliding off) none did.
Day at the beach. I think this time was Pass Christian.
It's getting warm enough to swim at our pool! The girls have been anxiously
awaiting this day.
A little post-church play time with mom's ponies. A special treat so
that Jeremy and I could take a rest.
Another beautiful day at the beach.
Quincy is getting very comfortable in the water which makes me a little
nervous. At least the coast near us had very shallow entries that last a long
time.
Jumping on the tramp
with friends.
Before the little water park at the zoo got too crowded with summer, we
accepted an invitation to go with friends and I let Ellia stay home from
school. The new feature this year is a lazy river, which is where they spent
most their time because the water on the splash pad was quite cold.
I took Quincy around until I thought I was going to be dizzy, then Ellia did
it a few times. She had so much fun, and loved how the water pushed her
as she kicked along doing her best "swimming."
The splash pad was really cute but Ashlyn was really the only one who liked the slides enough to spend more than a little time there. Quincy did not like being splashed.
When we were done playing in the water we took a quick stroll through the
zoo to see the animals that weren't on display when we were here last.
Ashlyn's show off day at Tiny Tumblers. For one of their homework
assignments we helped them draw their face. As a surprise, this fun and
educational life size body for each student was on display.
Quincy was entertained too.
It was fun to see Ashlyn showing Quincy around all the equipment.
Cartwheels.
Almost, Quincy.
Can't leave without
ribbons.
One night when the girls had been threatened to stay in their room and go to
sleep, Ellia left this note outside her door. I guess she figured that
technically this way she wasn't breaking the rules but she was still being an
informant.
For mother's day
weekend I decided I wanted to take the short trip to Gulf-Port and do some
things we hadn't done yet. Our first stop was the Stennis Space Center.
This is where the rockets are launched. They looked so big in person
and we weren't even that close to them.
Inside the museum.
This is where Fred Haise's historical Apollo 13 mission took place. We even
got to see his space suit. "Fred Wallace Haise, Jr. is an American
aeronautical engineer, former test pilot, and NASA astronaut. He is one of only
24 people to have flown to the Moon, having flown as Lunar Module Pilot on
Apollo 13.
For four days in 1970, Apollo 13 astronauts Fred Haise, Jim Lovell and Jack
Swigert had just about the entire civilized world holding its collective
breath.
Originally scheduled to land on the moon, the Apollo 13 mission experienced
a setback approximately 55 hours after launch when the cryogenic oxygen system
on the service module failed.
The failure forced Haise and his fellow crewmembers to abandon plans to land
on the moon. Instead, they turned Apollo 13's lunar module into a lifeboat,
flew around the moon and returned to Earth.
With the world nervously waiting, Haise and company successfully splashed
down in the Pacific Ocean on April 17."
One of the activities that Jeremy and the girls spent quite some time doing
was making and flying paper airplanes. There where examples of all the
different kinds you could make, more than I ever realized!
Afterward Jeremy took care of the girls while I shopped at the Gulf Port
Outlets for a while. It was so nice to shop kid free! I'm
pretty sure the girls enjoyed their time in the Disney store too.
Finally we visited the famous Blowfly Inn for lunch. The food was
yummy and the setting was really fun. The name comes from an old joke but
the owners took to it so well that they started to give out souvenir flies to
customers...until their U.S. supplier quit making them and they got too
expensive to import.
My mother's day breakfast, including a yummy smoothie!
Dinner is served by princesses. It was so nice to be taken care of all day.
Quincy helping Jer
fix the dishwasher....this looks a little familiar! (I have pictures of Ashlyn
doing the same thing in Bakersfield)
Another delicious picnic with Quincy.
Finishing off the day at Gulf Port with a trip to the beach.
Ellia's gymnastics
show off day.
Ashlyn's preschool graduation program. Lot's of songs, some snacks and
showing us around her classrooms. She really loved it there and I know she'll
miss it.
Her teachers.
She is so proud and excited for Quincy to come here!
Just a beautiful face I couldn't help taking pictures of.
Crawfishing with
Jeremy. They caught and kept four, but when they opened the cooler at
home their were only 3. Jeremy kept saying he hoped one hadn't gotten out
in the car because it would sure stink after a while. I sortof thought he
was teasing the whole time, but he found it under the driver's seat the next
morning.
They wanted to keep the crawfish for pets but they were fighting and then
got pretty listless after a day, so we let them go.
Eden's Frozen
birthday party. I took Ashlyn and Quincy to the trampoline park they
opened in New Orleans to celebrate. They had a blast.
Quincy even got to try piƱata.
One day I took Quincy out for a mother daughter lunch date. She was
very well behaved.
Figuring out how to turn the lights on and off by herself.
Ellia got invited to a tea party that was SO fun! At first she wasn't
excited about picking out and wearing the fancy hats, but it didn't take her
long to warm up.
Swim team begins.
A trip to the Aquarium before our passes run out. It started to rain while
we were there so I'm glad we picked an indoor place, it just didn't make for an
easy dash back to the car through the rain. I had one umbrella and
Quincy's stroller but I had to resort to a disposable bib on my head.
First trampoline sleepout! Quincy even got to stay out for a little
while, and she talked about it for weeks.
We have such reverent girls when they have to wait for us after church.
Sprinklers on the trampoline.
Left alone these girls can make quite a mess. Today it was craft feathers
ALL over the kitchen.
Another fun birthday
party this month that included a mermaid sighting! Ellia and Ashlyn knew
she wasn't real but they were still really excited. Ashlyn tripped over
her tail once or twice and then reached down and felt all the way from her
ankle to her bottom. Oh dear. After the party we stayed and played
on the beach for awhile.
Quincy, jumping and throwing herself in the water…so fun to
watch her play.

I've been able to volunteer a little in Ellia's art class. This is the painting I helped them make. First they would each take turns drawing a line or two, and then filling in a spot with paint. The painting was auctioned off at the annual Pelican Palooza.
Another delicious picnic with Quincy.
