December 2015 P2

Here we go. Let's have a baby.  Jeremy and I talked to the Dr. and decided to be induced on December 22nd.  We had to go in at about 5 in the morning so the girls had their first night at the Breedlove's.  They were very excited for the sleepover.

For my Christmas present Jeremy made a washing machine pedestal. After leaving the girls, Brandon came to help us lift the washer and dryer up onto it. Once it was all together I was SO excited!  It was perfect.
The process starts.
After a tough labor and delivery, Brody was born at 3:52 p.m. He was 6 pounds 9 1/2 ounces and 20.5 inches long. Since his heart rate had dropped right as he was being born, the Dr. immediately took him and after cutting the cord handed him to the nurses who working on getting his breathing steady and called for the NICU.  Brody's first pictures.  I remember looking over at him and seeing him with that one finger on his cheek, just gazing my direction.

My quick introduction before he was whisked away.
Resting in the NICU. Jeremy got to go see him first.  I had to be able to walk before they would let me go (even though I'd get to ride a wheelchair)  the first time I tried I only made it to the edge of the bed before I got light headed and they said I had to wait another hour to try again. We were told his lethargy might just be due to the tough delivery and depending on how he looked in an hour he might be able to come back to us.  Unfortunately he ended up staying for 12 days.  He was born with low muscle tone and had to get strong enough and coordinated enough in his suck, swallow, breath reflexes to safely eat on his own (part of the criteria for coming home).

Finally I got to see him in the NICU.  They told us to offer as little stimulation as possible. Not to rub but only touch him.

I spent a lot of time in tears.
Jeremy was my rock the whole time.

Melissa brought the girls to see us on December 23.  Probably between 10 and 12.
Even though he seemed so small to us, the girls said he was so big, because compared to the other babies in the NICU he WAS big.  Most of the other babies were premature.

Ellia said my eyes looked funny so after they left I showered and put mascara on, then took this picture to send to Jeremy for her.

Around 3 pm on December 23. Holding Brody in the mattress.

December 23rd. 8 pm, get to hold Brody and his oxygen comes off.

The morning of Christmas Eve.  Jeremy took the girls to get me flowers and a balloon. Ashlyn picked out these flowers. I got to have skin to skin with Brody.

Opening stockings.

Cute scarf.
A personalized water bottle.

After stockings Ashlyn said she was hungry so we took a break to eat Christmas Crunch.

Dressed as Sofia the First and singing with Elsa.
Ashlyn got upset about the color of her remote control car and made her own spot with her presents behind the couch.

Eventually she got over it and came to open her last big present...hooray another smile!
It took awhile for Ellia to notice the big object covered in blankets near her gifts.  While we were watching and filming Quincy and Ashlyn, she tried to get my attention and said, "mom, has this always been here?  Mom, did you put this here?"
We made her wait until the end....

There goes Ashlyn, sad that Ellia got a bike.
I guess one thing nice about 80 degree weather on Christmas is that you can take your new bike outside and ride.

Jeremy opening his big present from my mom and me.  A tool chest!

After stocking we went to visit Brody in the hospital.

We used Facetime to open presents from Grandpa Jeff and Grandma Laura.

25th One of our best Christmas gifts was that our neighbor came to watch the girls so we could go see Brody together. He even got his first present, one we opened from Grandma Laura.

Brody's first bottle, the nurse showing us how to feed him. (Christmas 9:30 pm)

 Dad's turn.

Ashlyn wrapped herself
My parents were planning to come December 28th but after everything that happened with him being the NICU I asked if they could come earlier. Grandpa Kerry and Grandma Carol arrive. 5:45 Dec 26th. We immediately went to see Brody in the hospital after Brandon brought them to our house from the airport.

29th, we all go to the hospital and Grandma and Grandpa take the girls to see the ducks.

Our nurse Cindy took these pictures for us and they are some of my favorite.

Opening cousin gifts.

30th. The weather wasn't as warm as Christmas, in fact it got quite a bit colder, but these girls still wanted to jump on the trampoline in their swimsuits.

Just a cute face.  I love the hairdo Grandma gave her.
Giving grandpa some alone time.

Quincy has been choosing her own attire lately.  It changes a few times a day and sometimes she forgets half of it.  This picture reminds me of something cute she does lately.  She has a pair or panties that got bleached and she calls them her two color panties.  She gets so excited to wear them every time they get washed. "My two color panties!"

It was so nice to have my parents visiting while Brody was in the hospital. We would go every three hours from 9 to 9 with a break at 6 while they had a shift change.  Sometimes we took turns, mostly we went together, and at least once a day we tried to get either my mom or dad there to visit.  It was so nice to know they we could go anytime and not have to worry about who would take care of the girls.

30th. Ellia had some crafty, cooking presents we needed to try out, but we just never quite got to it while Grandma was there to help.  Instead we enjoyed lot's of hot chocolate and played with one of my presents, a pizelle press! Oh, and our ice cream machine. Grandma Carol made the ice cream and it seemed SO time consuming and complicated. She had to boil the ingredients and then let them sit forever.  Unless we get an easier recipe I think we may return the machine!  Although then we are stuck with a huge box of rock salt.

31st. New Year's Eve. We have had some people bring us meals lately which has been such a blessing. One on Christmas eve and even Christmas.  Since Grandma Carol came we had her make some meals too and on New Years Eve we tried to repeat what I was hoping to have made on Christmas Eve. Ham, and company potatoes. We also used my new recipe for pumpkin pie.  Jeremy spent some time finishing the tree house too.  Even though we didn't really have any celebratory plans, Jeremy and I had been going to the hospital together each night at 9 pm, but I started feeling sick that evening and decided I better stay out of the NICU in case I was getting the flu. I kept getting hot and cold, and feeling a headache and body aches.  At 8:30 I went to bed, and only woke up a few times to the sounds of fireworks later that night.
