Welcome to New Orleans! Feb 9-11

Ashlyn playing Jeremy's phone and reading in her new room.  We are going to have Ellia and Ashlyn share now, which seems weird considering Ashlyn was still in her crib when we left Bakersfield.

We are just starting to explore the area.  There is this really cool walking path along the shore of Lake Ponchartrain. It has a restuarant or too in some of the big old Southern houses across the road, a gazebo and even a swingset along the way.  It was so beautiful and peaceful, it was really a great start to living here....even though we did see a man standing on his porch shooting a squirrel out of one of the trees with a long barrel gun. Yessiree, we now live in the South.

Night parade in Slidell and two parades in New Orleans
(my apologies that they aren't in order...I'm still figuring out my app)

You know you're in the South when you see a huge lifted, spray painted truck with Confederate Flags.

Cool Bikes
Star Wars
The second parade in New Orleans wasn't quite as classy...they had some potty humor, but I got a plunger and some toilet paper out of it!

Ashlyn slept through almost the entire second parade..passersby couldn't believe she could sleep through all the noise.  The second she woke up though she was ready for more parades.
Even Quincy liked the beads.
People had these specially made ladder seats complete with wheels.  The kids sit on top of them and catch whatever is thrown their way.
Some of the church crowd

A bit of loot.
Crowd
The first parade in the morning had awesome costumes.
The bands were so great!  I was reminded of that movie about bands...oh my sorry stressed mind.

Everyone is all about the Saints here..and they make their own parade watching get ups.  I saw a double decker trailer with a couch on each level but I didn't have a chance to capture on film.

Even the crowd was entertaining.
Best position for catching the loot.
One guys way of getting as much free stuff as possible.
Another crowd pleaser.

See something you want? PLEASE let me know.
I was actually excited they finally ended up catching these glow stick things.
LOVED these ladies on their horses.
This was the haul from the first parade (plus a few tiny stuffed animals and a light saber) I thought it was a ton until we went to the parades the following day and we left with TWO BAGS of oriental trading company's best.
Had to take this picture for Teri who told me I have to go to the tabasco factory for her.

Pirate float
Joker I think.
Jeremy doing double duty while I take care of Quincy.  The girls were timid at first but quickly figured out how to get stuff.  If they didn't get held up they were sad, and Ash was pretty competitive every time she didn't catch something she was mad.
All our stuff.
A float that was more the style I am used to.
One of our first big catches.
oh my gosh. what am i going to do with this stuff.
Throw me something mister!
of all the stuff we got and she plays with the bubble wrap.
So the floats are these double decker get ups with people placed on each level and each side.  Where they constantly open bags and bags of stuff to throw out...and the crowd goes crazy over this stuff.  At first Jeremy and I didn't get it, the stuff is worth like ten cents, but it wasn't long until we were jumping up and down and screaming for ten cent beads...its just catching.
Ok so we were at the 'family' parade and here was this guy on one of the floats....that really scares me for the NONfamily parades.
We thought it would be fun to load Ellia down with as many necklaces as possible.  Man do those things gets heavy though!  Then when we went to take them off they kept getting all caught up in each other and she almost got stuck!
Here is a brilliant person who concocted this method....a dryer tube leading to a bucket so the kids can put all the crap they catch straight down the shute into the collector.
One of my favorte parade entries...all these old men with recliners on scooter things
I was a quite surprised to see these Jazz shirts for sale in the Kohls here.  I mean I get why, but still.

If you thought we'd had enough of parades...you were wrong. We couldn't let Mardi Gras Monday go by without at least one parade so we went to the Covington parade....rain and all.

The girls are loving their rain boots.
