November

Had to start the month out right - stick an M&M up the nose. While we were driving I looked back and saw that Ellia's nose was blue. I asked her if she tried to put a candy up it, and she said yes, but I couldn't see any other signs so I figured she didn't really get it up. (I guess I figured I'd see a bulge or something.) When we finally stopped she was still fussing, so I took a look and for a fleeting moment thought we'd be headed to the Dr. Luckily when I slid my finger down the side of her nose and out it popped. M&M anyone? A BETTER start to the month, was Ashlyn's birthday. Although Ellia had a hard time with it.

Her birthday fell on a Sunday so we opened a few presents before church, but saved most for after.

She was getting pretty excited though!

Ellia ended up zonking out after church anyway. Like her mom, she can fall asleep almost anywhere.

Ellia's gift to Ashlyn was a build-a-bear monkey.

Later that night we had some of Ashlyn's friends over for cake and ice cream.

She was a little hesitant with the cake, more aggressive than Ellia was, but still didn't really dig in.

One of Ash's favorite places to play.

It was mostly the frosting she was interested in.

After only two weeks (which of course seemed longer to us) Ellia got her cast off.
To re-create one of my favorite things we do with my girl cousins and aunts, I planned a weekend trip with girls/women from Bakersfield. Here we are playing a little game - what is the most interesting thing in your purse. Jaime had a eyebrows and mustache.
Mia I wil be needing more of these pictures from you! We also brought a Wii and played "Just Dance"

We decided we needed to take a little trip one weekend so we planned to hike Sunday Peak. There was more snow than we anticipated but we had some extra stuff to keep us warm. The girls really enjoyed seeing and playing in the snow.
The idea of footprints was pretty cool to Ellia.

This was also pretty much Ash's first experience with shoes.

Yeah, the hat was kindof a new thing too...luckily it had a tie string.
Since Ellia had just barely gotten her cast off, Jeremy knew he'd have to carry her a lot of the time we were hiking, and he was very willing.
Ashlyn did ok with me for awhile, but she is going through a "Daddy's girl" stage so as soon as we took her out she'd cry for daddy.

It was very pretty with the snow, and of course there's that peaceful stillness. Well, peaceful until we saw bear tracks, then just a little eerie. Still I wasn't too paranoid until we saw more bear tracks AND cougar tracks - then I started getting antsy. I guess maybe I've seen too many episodes of "When Animals Attack." Anyway after I saw those tracks I got pretty quiet, I told Jeremy a few times that I was feeling nervous. Every little sound got my attention. For awhile there was no talking and no rustling or anything, then I heard a noise and jumped on Jeremy so vigorously that he got pretty jumpy too. We decided at that point to turn around, and go find a place for dinner and a fire.

Ash isn't quite walking yet and she is wanting to go everywhere, so it was kindof complicated to keep her away from the fire, especially since I was pretty cold.

Ellia was totally self entertained with the stream and the bridge. It was fun to watch her.

One of Ashlyn's favorite new things to do is climb in the bitty baby wagon.
Our next trip was to Sequio

Our first little hike included hospital rock. Since we didn't have chains we were only allowed six miles into the park the first day we were there.

On our way down the trail another family was headed up and they told us they had just seen a bear in the picnic area. We heard a bunch of honking and wondered if we'd get to see it. Sure enough...
Apparently a family had been having their picnic and this guy decided to join!

The family had abandoned their picnic and sat in their car, honking the horn, revving the engine and flashing their lights to try to scare it away.

The fog made for some extra pretty scenery.
Ellia's hat was a little big!
Ashlyn's favorite part of the hotel is always climbing on the end tables and playing with the phone or alarm clock.

Some of the hikes and drives wore the girls right out!
The second morning we rented chains and drove up as far as we could, IT WAS SO BEAUTIFUL! The girls were asleep and we had on some awesome Christmas music and the new snow and HUGE trees made it amazing, I felt like we were in a snow globe or something. Trees are always so beautiful right after it snows, and the fact that these were so huge just magnified the beauty. If you look close you can see the car ahead of us to give you a better scale.

This is the General Sherman tree, biggest in the park. In case you are arguing with your spouse over which is bigger, redwoods or sequoia's, here's the answer. Sequoia's are neither the tallest, or largest around, and not even the oldest for that matter. They are known for the largest mass.

The different sizes of Sequoia's look very different too, and actually all have different names. The smaller ones that look like typical pine trees are called spire tops. Another interesting thing is that their roots are generally only go 2-3ft underground.

The day after we got home (the day after Thanksgiving) was also a fun day. We got our new TV and phones (oh, and Jeremy also went to Target and Wal-mart at 2 or 3 am for the black friday Tv at Target)
From this lookout you could see 7 different mountain ranges.
The little restaurant next to our hotel where we had our Thanksgiving feast! (Ellia had a corn dog that she dropped on the ground halfway through, darn it!) It was pretty nice because Ashlyn slept on the bench the whole time. I don't think they were quite accustomed to serving Thanksgiving cause there was no gravy or cranberry sauce, and the stuffing was very different from anything I've ever had, but really good too. Oh, and my roll was actually a biscuit!

Before the new TV.

After. It was a little too bare for us so we made some alterations to our entertainment center.

Picture to come soon.
